Here’s how to celebrate the best of spring in Abbotsford:
Stroll Through a Sea of Colour at the Abbotsford Tulip Festival
Start your day at Lakeland Flowers’ Abbotsford Tulip Festival, Canada’s premier tulip celebration. Wander through 35 acres of tulips and lupins, marvelling at more than 100 breathtaking varieties. Snap Instagram-worthy photos along golden pathways, sit in canoes and swings in the fields and pose with giant Dutch klompen (traditional shoes).
Don’t leave without grabbing a fresh bouquet and sampling treats from the onsite food trucks—perfect for an early lunch among the blooms.
Lakeland Flowers is open for three months of blooms until July 1st. May and June have 30 combined acres of lavender, meadow flowers, peonies and lupines.
We met talented Chilliwack artist Jennifer Sparacino, who was painting a field of tulips in the garden. Once her painting is finished, it will be on sale in the gift shop.
Before planning your visit, check the field report. Lakeland offers three months of flower festivals and tickets and season passes are available now. Free parking on-site, and the fields are open from early bird hours, from 6 a.m. until dusk. The location is 3663 Marion Rd, Abbotsford.

Slow Down in Historic Downtown Abbotsford
Historic Downtown Abbotsford is one of those places where you’ll want to park the car and just wander. The streets are lined with independent boutiques, vibrant murals, and some of the best coffee shops around. It’s the kind of spot where every corner has a little surprise—perfect for an unhurried afternoon of browsing, sipping, and soaking it all in.

A few favourites to check out:
Foxgrove Floral Cafe
Foxglove Floral Café is in the Rail District, where fresh blooms and beautiful lattes come together in the most charming way. It’s a favourite with locals for breakfast and lunch items as well as a tempting selection of hot or cold beverages.
We tried the Raspberry Almond Tart, iced strawberry matcha and iced coffee.

Oldhand Cafe and Bakery
Oldhand Café and Bakery is a local institution known for hearty breakfasts, homemade baking, and that old-school, cozy vibe you can’t fake. We noticed that the vegan and gluten-free Breakfast Cookie is a popular choice at Oldhand’s, with people dropping by to pick up several at a time, as is the Breakfast Sandwich.
We tried the Raspberry Lemon Bar, the gluten and dairy free Amaretti and the Blueberry Scones with Earl Grey Glaze.

Where to Stay in Abbotsford
On our getaway, we stayed at Clarion Hotel and Conference Centre, which turned out to be a great home base. It’s easy to find, right off the Trans-Canada Highway, and just a short drive to everything on our itinerary — from flower fields to wineries to historic downtown.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable. You’ll find an indoor pool and hot tub for a relaxing evening dip, a fitness centre if you want to sneak in a workout, and a White Spot restaurant attached to the property. Coupons are provided at check in for a 25% discount for breakfast if you choose to dine here.
If you’re travelling with your dog, Clarion offers pet-friendly rooms too. We noticed that the hotel is popular with sports teams and conferences. It is also located next to the Abbotsford’s Castle Fun Park.
Tip: If you are a light sleeper ask for a room on the north side of the hotel.
