Perched above the quiet village of Puigpunyent, Grand Hotel Son Net is a five-star boutique retreat housed in a palatial estate. What began as a grand Mallorcan manor has been carefully transformed into one of the island’s most refined luxury hotels. The property preserves the soul of its 17th-century origins while offering the discreet elegance today’s traveller expects. Just a 20-minute drive from Palma, it feels worlds away from the bustle of the capital, yet close enough to enjoy its museums, boutiques, and vibrant dining scene.

Grand Hotel Son Net Mallorca Hotel Review
First Impressions
The approach is cinematic and an experience in itself. A palm-lined driveway curves towards the golden stone façade, with wrought-iron balconies and flowering bougainvillea spilling over its edges. Inside, graceful archways and soaring ceilings reflect the home’s aristocratic past. A chilled glass of cava upon arrival sets the tone that feels intimate and personal. It amplifies the intent and purpose of unforgettable. It left me in awe of the beauty of this luxurious boutique hotel.

Architecture and Design
The meticulous restoration was led by renowned Spanish interior designer Lorenzo Castillo, who approached each space as a canvas. He carefully and intentionally highlighted the mansion’s original character, stone floors, antique fireplaces and vaulted ceilings, while layering in soft palettes, custom fabrics, and carefully chosen furniture. The result is a dialogue between centuries: the spirit of 1672 is present in every detail, yet the atmosphere offers a refined level of comfort.

Rooms and Suites
Every room is unique and impressive. Every detail has been chosen to reflect both the heritage of the 1672 manor house and the refined vision of interior designer Lorenzo Castillo. I fell in love with the wallpaper, among other things, of course. Some have canopy beds dressed in crisp linens. Marble bathrooms double as a private retreat with thoughtful amenities. The larger suites, such as the Grand Suite Jaime III, offer private terraces with sweeping views of the Galatzó Mountain, perfect for a morning tea or coffee, or in the evening, a glass of wine under the stars.
Just outside the main Palace, cottages invite guests into their own sanctuary. I can only imagine how grand they are.

Estate Vineyard & Exclusive Wine
One of Son Net’s most distinctive treasures is its private vineyard, nearly a hectare of Malvasia grapes planted on the estate in 2006. Within a year, the first harvest was entrusted to a respected Mallorcan winery, beginning a partnership that has produced Son Net’s own wine since 2007.
This 100% Malvasia white wine is elegant and often compared to Sémillons and Sauvignon Blancs for its lively freshness and delicate minerality. Served exclusively in the hotel’s restaurants and bars, each glass is a representation of the sun-drenched Mediterranean slopes of the Tramuntana Mountains and the richness of the surrounding terroir.

Dining at Grand Hotel Son Net
Dining at Grand Hotel Son Net is as layered as the estate itself, ranging from refined Mediterranean gastronomy to relaxed poolside fare — all united by the estate’s wine. The philosophy here is field-to-fork, with many ingredients sourced from the estate’s ecological gardens and nearby farms.
El Gazebo
During my afternoon visit, I had lunch at El Gazebo, the estate’s seasonal poolside restaurant. We feasted on a Mallorcan Dishes Tasting Menu, all made with fresh and seasonal ingredients from the island. The experience was unhurried, reflecting the gentle rhythm of Mallorca. Service was impeccable, attentive without being intrusive. Small touches appreciated, like the presence of a purse stool, a detail seen in Michelin-starred dining rooms, underlined the restaurant’s quiet luxury. Paired with a crisp glass of Son Net’s exclusive Malvasia wine, lunch here became not only a culinary experience but a taste of the estate itself. We sat there, completely relaxed, soaking in the atmosphere and taking in the incredible mountain views.
Our menu prepared by the Executive Chef:
- Mallorcan traditional “frito”- seasonal fried vegetables
- Steamed Menorcan mussels, fresh tomato & basil
- Sóller prawn & garlic croquette
- Mallorcan pie with seasonal vegetables
- Fried red mullet with fried octopus noodles and “all i oli” sauce with garlic and paprika
- Grilled acorn-fed iberian pork, Son Net “mojo” sauce, roasted aubergine and herbs “all i oli” sauce.

Mar & Duix
Although I didn’t dine at Mar & Duix, the hotel’s flagship restaurant, walking through the space was enough to imagine the experience. The elegant surroundings built around a triple-height former olive press and extensive wine cellar, it is the kind of dining room where every detail feels intentional. The outside dining area on the patio would be my perfect spot.
Executive Chef Sergi Olmedo crafts menus designed to highlight the island’s bounty, echoing the flavours of the Mediterranean. He draws extensively from the estate’s ecological gardens and Mallorca’s markets.

The Green Bar
The Green Bar has deep, rich tones, polished wood, and intimate, comfortable lighting. I could easily envision slipping in for a glass of wine before dinner or ending the night with a cocktail and a few tapas. It’s the kind of bar that invites lingering, conversation, and quiet observation; more than a transition space, it felt like a destination in its own right.

The Location – Puigpunyent and the Tramuntana Mountains
The small storybook village of Puigpunyent is Mallorca at its most authentic, wth winding cobblestone lanes, and the scent of orange blossoms fills the air in late April to May. Surrounded by almond groves and pine forests, the village is a gateway to the hiking trails and cycling routes of the Tramuntana Mountains.
From the hotel, you can wander into town for a café con leche at a local bakery, explore nearby vineyards, or set out on a scenic coastal drive. Palma’s galleries, boutiques, and historic quarter are less than half an hour away, yet the pace here feels a world apart.

Spa & Wellness
Tucked into the estate, the Son Net Spa feels like a sanctuary of calm. A saltwater indoor pool glimmers softly under mosaic tiles, while a thermal circuit with sauna, steam, and plunge pools invites you to linger at your own pace. Five treatment rooms and a private beauty suite offer everything from facials to full-body rituals, many inspired by Mallorca’s natural bounty. With views of the Tramuntana from the fitness studio and quiet corners designed for reflection, the spa isn’t just an amenity — it’s an extension of the estate’s soul, a place to restore both body and mind.

Solar panels, water conservation systems, and an advanced recycling program reduce the estate’s footprint. The kitchen draws from its own ecological gardens and vineyards, ensuring seasonal menus with minimal transport impact.
Adding to the charm are the on the estate’s farm. Sheep, donkeys, and hens roam the land, contributing to the sense of living tradition and deep-rooted connection to rural Mallorcan life.
